Liq. radioactive waste disposal - by solidification with cement and alkali or alkaline earth silicate

In processing of radioactive wastes by (a) slurrying the radioactive wastes with 25-70 pts. wt. cementing material per 100 pts.wt. waste in a mixer, (b) transfering the slurry to a storage and shipping container and (c) allowing to harded 5-25 pts.wt. alkali or alkaline earth metal silicate are added to the slurry per 100 pts. wt. waste before hardening. The silicate additive provides rapid, direct solidification of all common nuclear power industry wastes, including conc. borate solns., e.g. gel in 2 min., max. hardness 7 days, broadens the range of liq. tolerance and increases water retention.
