An overhead electric cable for use as a power conductor or as an earth conductor and including at least one optical fibre 11, the fibre or fibres being disposed within a fluid-tight non-metallic tube 17 which is surrounded by at least one layer (e.g. layers 18 and 20) of elongate reinforcing elements 21 and conductors 19.
