PURPOSE:To prevent the danger of explosion due to the mixing of a nutrient source gas, e.g. methane, with oxygen, by recovering and reutilizing the unutilized gas and air fed to a culture medium separately with a partition plate provided in a cultivating tank of aerobic microorganisms requiring the gas. CONSTITUTION:A draft tube 17 is provided in a cultivating tank 1 to carry out the stirring by an air lift, and a partition plate 18 is provided. A gas, e.g. methane, to be a nutrient source fed from a line 9 and an oxygen source, e.g. air, fed from a line 11 are recovered separately from lines 4 and 16. The partition plate 18 permits the recovery of a gas containing a gaseous substance 7 almost without oxygen and nitrogen and carbon dioxide formed as a by-product from the line 4. The carbon dioxide is then removed by a cabon dioxide removing apparatus 21, and the gas is circulated through the cultivating tank 1 simply by purging the accumulated carbon dioxide from a line 19. The unutilized air is taken out of the line 16 to the outside of the system.
