End seal for cable or optical fibre jointing box - uses half cylinders with impression of undulating surface of unsheathed cable bundles mounted on inside surface to give loose fit

The box is used for joining bundles of cables or optical fibres which have an undulating outer profile due e.g to lack of overall sheathing, and has two end clamps at either end of a cylindrical enclosure in which the joints are sealed. Each end clamp is formed from halves bolted together, and has an internal profile conforming at a slightly largerdia., to the undulating outer profile of the cable or optical fibre bundles. The end clamp comprises two metal half cylinders cut axially and with flanges (1) at either edge for bolting (11) the two halves together. The inside of the clamp has an image (2) of the cable bundle moulded into it, and this, when clamped over the flexible coverings of cables in the bundle, provides a close end seal.
