The deflection adjustment roll has a fixed carrier and a tubular roll shell which can be rotated about the latter and is supported on hydrostatic contact-pressure elements. A pump (24) with its drive motor (25) is attached directly to one end of the carrier for the purpose of delivering the hydraulic fluid. This arrangement of the pump (24) makes possible a short reaction time in the event of pressure changes. The motor is provided with a controller (32), to which the measurement signal of a pressure sensor (30) arranged at the outlet of the pump is fed. It is also possible for a plurality of pumps (24) with their motors (25) to be attached to a flat end face (23) of the carrier (1). <IMAGE>
