<p>PURPOSE:To decrease the number of information bits to receive a recognizing process and to reduce the processing time, by catching the video information of a characters on a medium and producing an edge table from the video information to display the dark and bright changing point of the chracter in the form of the numerical value. CONSTITUTION:When a character 12 written on a slip 11 is read by a reader 1, a reading part 3 is driven by a command given from a control firm 2. Then the image of the whole slip 11 is stored in a video storage 7 in the form of the video information. Then both the position and the area of the character 12 to be read by the firm 2, and the position of the dark and bright changing point of the area indicated in the storage 7 is stored in a memory 9 by the firm 5 an in the form of an edge table. Then the dark and bright changing point stored in the memory 9 is read out to a recognizing firm 6 by a command given from the firm 2 to be successively compared with the feature items of the character in a memory 10. When a coincidence is obtained, the character 12 on the slip 11 is recognized. Then the number of information bits is decreased during the recognizing process.</p> |
