This invention relates to a coupling comprising two connectable and disconnectable coupling parts wherein the first coupling part cradles a sealing device which is longitudinally displaceable and wherein the second coupling part is arranged to achieve the displacement of the sealing device during the connection of the coupling parts. The sealing device comprises a sealing element and a supporting or holding part. The sealing device can, depending on the displacement, take either an initial position or a sealing position between the coupling parts. Coupling sealing devices presently known in the art have certain disadvantages such as short life, inability to withstand high pressures, comparatively strong externally applied connecting force required and, a tendency to seize up. The present invention seeks to overcome these problems by providing a sealing device containing a separate spring device which actuates the sealing device towards its initial position. The first coupling part has at least one sealing surface which is interactable with the sealing element in the sealing position. The coupling parts are also arranged to make a space for the sealing element in the sealing position which is separated from the flow of the media coupled by the coupling. In a second embodiment the sealing element is designed with an overhanging section directed past the supporting or holding part towards the centre of the coupling parts. The coupling is arranged to allow the mentioned part to come in close contact against a sealing surface on the second coupling part without considerable squeezing and springing by the elasticity of the material of the sealing element. |
