The process is intended for sealing a glass jar using a cover material whose surface facing the glass is coated with a thermoplastic sealing medium. Before applying the cover by heat under pressure, the contact area of the glass is treated to improve its wetting characteristics and cleaned. This treatment may be carried out by a gas flame or by a corona discharge in a high-voltage alternating electrical field. The glass surface may be brought to a temperature of 100 to 400 deg. centigrade, preferably around 250 deg., e.g. using a gaseous infra-red radiator as produced by a company specified. |
