A low m.pt. amorphous borate-phosphate frit has the compsn. (Ca,Ba)0.B2O3.P2O5; pref. Ca(1-x+2n)Ba(x)0(1+2n).mB2O3.nP2O5; where x=0.2-0.4; m=1.7-2.3; n=0.7-1.3. An aq. suspn. for depositing a phosphor coating on a lamp envelope comprises (a) finely divided phosphor particles dispersed in water; (b) a temporary organic binder which can be completely removed by firing; and (c) a minor amt. amorphous borate-phosphate frit, pref. as above, which will bond the phosphor particles to each other and to a lamp envelope on firing. The frit is pref. 4-10 wt.%, based on phosphor wt. The frit provides better adhesion than conventional frits, esp. useful for small annular fluorescent lamps, low fusion temp., e.g. below 700 deg.C, and is transparent to 400-700 nm radiation, so does not detract from lamp brightness.
|
