A fibre bundle is fed to a yarn-forming device (10) by a fibre-feed device (7). The yarn-forming device (10) has a fluid nozzle (13). During starting, the distance between the downstream nip (4a, 4b) of the fibre-feed device (7) and a twisting point in the fluid nozzle (13) is reduced in such a way that it is shorter than the effective respective fibre length. After starting has ended, the said distance is increased gradually or in steps, up to a dimension at which conventional yarn formation is carried out. The reduction and increase is carried out by displacing the fluid nozzle (13). <IMAGE>
