Flow control device (10) which includes a housing (18) having a plate or partition (24) oriented generally transverse to the fluid flow direction. The partition (24) has a central opening (30) and a plurality of flow passages (26) disposed in a circular array about the opening (30). The device also includes a generally T-shaped elastomeric element (50) having a stem (52) received by the central opening (30) in the partition (24) and a disk-shaped flange (54) projecting transversely From the stem (52). The flange (54) has a lower, beveled, annular surface (64) overlying the flow passages (26) and defining with the partition (24) a variable flow area (72). Variations in fluid pressure causes the beveled portion (64) of the flange (54) to deflect accordingly. The flow is thereby varied so that the flow rate is maintained substantially constant irrespective of pressure variations. |
