<p>A clip design for joining two panels of rigid thermoplastic material (I) comprises a combination of at thin-walled pocket in one panel and a stud on the other panel where the stud has projecting fins which locally deform the pocket to obtain a firm engagement. Suitable for fastening the lid of a plastic box to its base, e.g. for an egg pack of PVC with a wall thickness of 0.3-0.6 mm. Text characterises (I) by an elastic modulus of at least 60 000 N/sq. cm. Pref. the thin walled zone has a thickness less than 65% of that of the base panel, and adjacent zones retain at least 95% of their original thickness. To assist opening, each panel is shaped to expose one web for ease of manual grip adjacent to the clip. Opt. the pocket has no base, so that the head of the stud can be pressed out to release the clip.</p> |
