PURPOSE:To increase mechanical strength and to improve durability by providing a mesh-form net layer of fibers made of an ethylene tetrafluoride-ethylene copolymer in the center of a catalyst layer for a gas diffusion electrode. CONSTITUTION:A gas diffusion electrode comprises a porous nickel plate 1 facing the electrolyte side; a catalyst layer 2; a connecting layer 4 made of poly-ethylene tetrafluoride and an ethylene tetrafluoride-propylene hexafluoride copolymer; and a porous film layer 5 of poly-ethylene tetrafluoride. The catalyst layer 1 is provided almost in its center with a net layer made of fibers of a copolymer of ethylene tetrafluoride and ethylene. The net layer 3 may be an un-woven net whose cross points are all molten and stuck. The catalyst layer 2 is produced by using a catalytic material such as active carbon and fluorine resin bonding agent. |
