For the simple recycling of material in strip form, in particular from the edge trimming of flat-film and blown-film lines as well as film tape lines, it is proposed to compact the unstretched edge strips by means of a stuffing box tube (11), upstream of which there are a pair of feed rolls (14, 15) and possibly a folding die (16), and to feed the plug (12) produced to a barrel section (3) of the extruder barrel (1) which lies upstream of the hopper housing (6) in the direction of extrusion. This has the advantage that the screw channel of the extruder screw (7) is not yet filled here. When the extruder screw (7) turns past the bore (10) of the barrel section (3), the sharp-edged screw flight (8) cuts the plug (12) up regularly into pieces, which are melted in the melting zone of the extruder with the polymer filled in the hopper housing (6) and are mixed into the melt.
