R1 is H, F, Cl, Br, OCH3, CH3, NO2, CO2R2, S(O)nR3, SO2NR4R5, SO2N(OCH3)CH3 or OSO2R6;
R2 is C1-C4 alkyl, C3-C4 alkenyl, CH2CH2Cl or CH2CH2OCH3;
R3 is C1-C4 alkyl;
R4 and R5 are independently C1-C4 alkyl;
R6 is C1-C4 alkyl or CF3;
n is 0, 1 or 2;
X is C1-C2 alkyl, C1-C2 alkyl substituted with OCH3, CF3, C1-C3 alkoxy, N(CH3)2, NHCH3, NH2, or SCH3;
Y is CH3, OCH3 or Cl;
Z is CH or N; and
W is O or S;
and their agricultural salts;
exhibit herbicidal activity. They may be formulated for use in conventional manner. The compounds may be made by reacting novel herbicidally active compounds of formula

wherein X min and Y min are chlorine or bromine,
with an alkali metal methoxide; or by reacting the appropriate quinolinesulfonamide with the appropriate heterocyclic isocyanate. </p> |
