An apparatus for cutting strips from a sheet metal plate and for removing the cut strips from the cutting blades and stacking the strips on a plurality of piles, comprising: a stationary blade arranged along an edge of a feeding table and a movable blade cooperating with the stationary blade to cut strips from a sheet metal plate which is fed on the feeding table, a supporting member arranged behind the stationary blade in the same height level as the feeding table and being displaceable from a first working position behind the stationary blade and above a plurality of piles of sheet metal strips to a second, clearing position away from the stationary blade and behind the plurality of piles of the sheet metal strips, and a stop member selectively displaceable from a first position in a certain distance behind the stationary blade to one of several retracted positions each being above one of the piles of sheet metal strips.
