A slipping clutch includes members engaging each other through driving or abutment means arranged resiliently, so that the members rotate only as long as the torque is insufficient to disengage the members by a snap action, in which latter event the members are completely disengaged until they return to a predetermined relative setting. In the arrangement according to Fig. 1 a drive shaft 1 has a peripheral groove 3 housing a short length of spring wire 5 which, for normal drive, bears against a ball 8 in a radial bore 6 in the driven member 2, but which rides over the ball, which is loaded by a circumferential spring ring 9, to break the drive on overload. In the form according to Fig. 3 the drive shaft 21 carries balls 23 loaded by a diametral spring 24 and engaging abutments 31 on driven member 22 for normal drive; on overload the balls ride over the abutments and enter circumferential slots 30 between the abutments to break the drive. |
