PURPOSE:To cool a blower motor effectively without increase in air intake resistance by introducing ambient air for cooling the blower motor from the rear of the cabinet of an air conditioner. CONSTITUTION:Air in the room is introduced through an opening 17, as indicated by the arrow A, toward the front side of the cabinet 23 of the air conditioner by a blower in operation. The introduced air is either heated or cooled through a heat exchanger 19 and is drawn into a runner 15 through a bell-mouthed opening 21, being exhausted upward. On the other hand, a space 26 where the electric motor 16 is installed is under negative pressure created by rotation of the runner 15 so that the ambient air is introduced into said space through air ports provided on a back panel 22 and side panels 12 to cool the electric motor 16 and is discharged into a casing 14 as indicated by the arrow B through gaps between the runner 15 and the side panels 12. Therefore, the electric motor 16 is kept cooled by the ambient air so that the steady operation of the blower can be maintained by preventing temperature rise of the motor windings. |
