A rectangular support plate (2) of light alloy has two protruding studs (3) which penetrate corresponding holes in the measuring tape (1) to make a firm attachment. A backing plate (4) for the tape has a magnetised plate (6) glued to it and contains large diameter holes (7) for the studs. This plate assembly is attached by flattening the heads (8) of the studs. The end (2b) of the support plate has a large cross section in which a shaft (9) is housed and on which a ring (12) is mounted. A hook (11) of magnetised material also pivots on the shaft. The magnetisation ensures that it maintains a closed position against the magnetic plate assembly. The hook has two points (14) which are slightly bent to enter or grip onto a supporting material (19).
