The sealing arrangement is for a piston reciprocating in a bore, particularly in an i.c. engine, having one or more compression rings in grooves in the piston. The ring (5) is preloaded in the radial direction to a relatively slight degree and has relatively low resistance to external radial forces. A pressure chamber (8) is connected between the base of the groove (6) and the inside of the ring to the annular space (4) between piston and bore on the side of the piston ring towards the combustion chamber.
