The system uses pulses transmitted via the normal electricity supply lines. A rotating switch (1) includes a flat contact disc with six contact pads (2a,2f) arranged around its circumference. A rotating arm (4) is mounted centrally to contact each of these pads, in turn. The arm is rotated by steps by an electromagnet (8) operating on a pawl (5) which engages a toothed wheel. The arm may be advanced by one step by each pulse it receives, or its rotation may be controlled by the duration of pulses, or the interval between them. Control of a particular function is carried out by relays (10a,-10c) which are energised when the rotating arm contacts an appropriate pad. A circuit resetting the counter to zero (13-16) is associated with one of the contact pads.
