PURPOSE:To make cam shaft lighter and easier to manufacture and reduce cost of manufacturing by fitting a plurality of shaft supporting sections and cam sections on the outer periphery of a holow shaft made of a steel pipe, those supporting and cam section being formed independently of the shaft, and then fixing the mutually fitting contact faces with soldering, shrink-fitting or other fixing methods. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of supporting members 2 and cams 3 that are separate members to a hollow shaft 1 that is made of a steel pipe are fitted on the outer periphery of the shaft 1 with the mounting hole opened through the center of the supporting members 2 and cams 3 passing on the shaft 1. Is the fitting on at least one of the mutually fitting circumferential faces a plating film of metal such as copper, etc. or a pasty copper solder material is applied and the shaft assembly is heated in a furnace or ordinary shrink-fitting is used to fix the mutually fitting faces. After the fitting, the supporting members 2 and cams 3 are subjected to a hardening treatment and finish-grinding. Cam shafts constructed as above are lighter and easy to manufacture, and their manufacturing cost is low. |
