<p>The self-elevating hopper uses lifting gear which effects the lateral deployment of four telescopic props. Elevation of the hopper entails sliding, rotation or articulation of the props, these three movements being used simultaneously as a group or in pairs. The functional hopper has good stability with a minimum prop speed of three metres, and the props retract to provide a highway transit gauge of less than 2.4 metres. The system may be used to secure the unit on a carrier vehicle, lowering the centre of gravity and reducing sway. The dead weight of the unit may be one quarter of its total loaded weight and the lifting gear may be driven by cable, rack or jack.</p> |
