PURPOSE:To prevent the return flow of the air in the water jacket of a marine engine when it is started with no water in the jacket to the intake side of a cooling water pump which is provided on a ship above its water line by providing a release valve in the recycling water channel and at the same time installing in the water drain channel a water channel that has a temperature sensing valve in a bypass. CONSTITUTION:When a marine engine is started with no cooling water in the jacket 14 that is formed in the outer surface of a combustion chamber 11, a cooling water pump 17 supplies water to the jacket 14. At this time a temperature sensing valve 18 is closed and the air in the jacket 14 is discharged to a water drain channel 19 from an air channel 21 that is provided so as to bypass the above mentioned valve 18. Because this arrangement keeps the pressure in the jacket 14 from rising over a pressure which is the opening pressure for a release valve 23 that is installed at the upstream end of a recycling water channel 22, the air does not return to the cooling water pump 17 via the recycling water channel 22. Consequently the reduced water supply capability due to return flow of the air of the cooling water pump will not occur and it is possible to provide the combustion chamber with rapid cooling after starting the engine. |
