Novel substd. thiazoles are inters. for 3.7-disubstd.-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acids. They are of formuls (I) or their carboxylic esters or salts. Ra1' is amino, lower alkylamino each opt. protected or OH. Z is protected carboxy. Specifically claimed cpds. include 2-(2-tert.-pentyloxycarbonylamino-1,3-thiazol-4-yl)glyoxylic acid. (I) are used to treat infectious diseases in animals.
