Polyene compds. I (R1,R2 = H, halo, lower alkoxy; R3,R4,R5,R6 = H, lower alkyl; R7 = mono- or di(lower alkyl)carbamoyl; n = 1, 2), useful as local and systemic treating agent of a tumor and a dermatitis, were prepd. by converting II (R8 = carboxyl or lower alkoxy carbonyl) to I. Thus, 2 g trans-7-(1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-5-indanyl)-3-methyl-octa-3,4,6-triene-1-pentaphosphoric acid dissolved in 25ml toluene was stirred with 0.4 g PCl3 for 18hr under argon atmosphere and decanted for transparent and yellow oil, which was aminated, washed, dewatered and dried to give trans-7-(1,1,3,3-tetraethyl-5-indanyl)-3-methyl-octa-2,4,6-triene-1-monoethylamide.
