WET ASH REMOVAL SYSTEM FOR A BOILER

An improvement is disclosed for a wet ash removal system for a boiler, the wet ash removal system consisting of a trough filled with water and located beneath the ash funnel of a boiler and having a quench water inlet and an overflow and ash conveying equipment running through the trough. The improvement relates to the provision of cooling equipment for quench water circulating therethrough, between the trough overflow and the quench water inlet, and obliquely extending parallel plates located in the trough adjacent the overflow. With the improvement ash entrained with the quench water can be settled out before the water passes through the overflow and the quench water can be recycled in a closed system.
