Steel straps are heat treated and galvanised by continuously advancing the strap into contact with an electric conductor and then driving it through a molten Zn bath downstream of the conductor. An electric current of sufficient power to heat it to 537.8-982 degrees C is passed through the whole of the strap section between the conductor and the galvanising bath, so that it enters the bath at >=537.8 degrees C and is cooled in the bath to >=82.5 degrees C less than the temp. at which it enters the bath. Excess Zn is removed from the strap surface,t he strap is then cooled to solidify the remaining Zn, and the strap is finally coiled without further heat treatment. The process is used in the mfr. of steel strapping for binding packing cases, bundles of articles etc. The strap has excellent traction and corrosion resistance in use.
|
