1,196,809. TiO 2 dispersion in polycarbonamides. MONSANTO CO. 14 Nov., 1967 [16 Nov., 1966], No. 51709/67. Heading C3R. [Also in Division Cl] A filament of a synthetic linear polycarbonamide contains at least 0À5%, based on the weight of the polycarbonamide, of a metal salt electrolyte and between 0À1 and 5À0%, based on the weight of the polycarbonamide, of a pigment comprising TiO 2 coated with aluminium oxide, the aluminium oxide constituting 2 to 15, preferably 2 to 10 wt. per cent of the pigment. Conventional di-acids and derivatives, diamine and derivatives, and amino acid reactants yielding the polycarbonamide are listed and aromatic alkali metal sulphonates, e.g. 3,5-disulpho-benzoic acid di-potassium salt, are the only metal salt electrolytes specified. The coating of aluminium oxide prevents agglomeration of the pigment which formerly occurred due to the presence of the metal salt electrolyte in the polycarbonamide. In examples, the coated pigment is introduced as an aqueous slurry during the hydrolytic polymerization of nylon 66 salt containing 1À5 wt. per cent of 3,5-disulphobenzoic acid dipotassium salt. Antioxidants, plasticizers and viscosity stabilizers may also be present. |
