A drive and monitoring system for a pressurised liquid driven member (10) comprising a control valve (12) for leading pressurised operating liquid through a pair of conduits (4, 6) to a device (8) for driving the member (10), each conduit including a volumetric meter (32, 34) of the kind by which it is possible to measure the magnitude and direction of flow of liquid therethrough in discrete partial amounts. The meters (32, 34) include means to produce electrical pulses in response to each partial amount. The electrical pulses are then evaluated computatively with respect to magnitude and direction of flow through the respective meters. <IMAGE>
