PURPOSE:To reduce the loss of a connection by making the sectional area of one or both end surfaces of the core of an optical fiber greater than that of the intermediate part. CONSTITUTION:One optical fiber 1 increases in the diameter of its core 2 gradually at the both end parts. The core diameter is about 40-100mum at the thicker part and >=150mum at the end surface 7, which is thicker than the intermediate part 3. The end parts are in a turncated cone shape and the both end surfaces 7 and 8 are polished. The external circumference of the core 2 is covered with a cladding material 4, whose thickness is about 25mum. |
