The system is primarily intended for field strength reduction of lightning currents for possible utilisation. It comprises a glass column with several concentric reduction plates. The latter are downwards open and their diameters are steadily increased in the direction of the column foot. They are arranged in horizontal positions and form a reduction cascade. Each plate has preferably a concentric aperture with outwards pointing short collar and of a diameter corresponding to that of the column. Thus it is possible to secure each plate closely round the glass column, using a clamping ring of good conductive metal. The ring carries a current terminal, while the plate edge has an even number of electrodes as output points. The outer plate edge may be beaded and both plate surfaces may be completely coated with a thick layer of an insulating substance.
