Paper or plastic U-shped handles are formed on machine by folding their ends at 90 degrees, and then mounted on a continuous band of material to form shopping bags, by first gripping the strips by their centre portions and folding the ends through 90 degrees in a sense opposite to that of their motion, the ends then being gripped and the centres released, and second folding the handles and assembling them on the continuous band of material. The advantages are that the flow of handles proceeds at the same speed as that of the band of material to which they are attached, they can be precisely positioned and there is no risk of defacing the material with glue. |
