1307780 Starting blocks J D PORTGIETER 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 23908/71 Heading A6D A starting block comprises a sloping surface 20.1 against which the athlete places his foot, this being pivoted to a base member 26 at 34 and having its angle of slope adjustable by varying the degree of overlap between two strut parts 36.1 and 36.2, the former being pivoted at 38 to the foot support 20.1 and the latter at 40 to the base 26. A spine member 16 connects two such starting blocks together, each being connected to it by a clamp on an arm 22. The lateral spacing of the blocks is variable by movement of the arms 22 (by releasing wing-nuts 26.2). Spikes (not shown) and triangular apertures 30 in the base 26 help to anchor the starting block, and spikes may also be driven through holes 32 for this purpose. Openings 20.11 in the foot support member accommodate the spikes of the athlete's shoes. |
