A heat exchanger having a multiplicity of parallel fins which are situated laterally next to one another, and having heat exchange tubes extending through an arrangement of fins permits heat exchange between a fluid flowing through the heat exchange tubes and a fluid flowing between the fins. The heat exchange takes place in this case through the walls of the heat exchange tubes and the fins. The fins are respectively formed in their wall between the adjacent heat exchange tubes, which are arranged in a row, with the cross-section of roof-shaped strips by executing cuts therein, and due to the fact that the material of the fins is raised such that the roof-shaped strips are aligned at right angles to the direction in which the fluid flows between the fins. The angle of the roof-shaped strips, the level of the lateral edges of adjacent roof-shaped strips and the spacing (pitch) of the fins are fixed using given values in order to optimise the ratio of an increase in the heat exchange to an increase in the resistance opposing the passage of the fluid, and this also results in an increase in the strength of the fins. <IMAGE>
