Spherical weather protective tank covers for ship cryogenic tanks are made of sections having expandable components to absorb motion induced deformations. A liquid cargo carrying ship(11) particularly for liquefied natural gas, comprises at least one cargo tank held in the hull and extending to above the main deck(15), with a cover surrounding the above-deck part of the tank consisting of a section of a spheroidal surface(25) with at least three selfsupporting metal plating sections each curved in two directions and connected at the bottom to the main deck.
