PURPOSE:To ensure the recording with the excellent short wavelength properties and high density without causing any dip of the output wavelength properties, by applying a magnetic deterioration process to the side surface of a main magnetic pole at the upstream side in the travelling direction of a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic deterioration process is applied through an ion process, a plasma process, etc. to the side surface of a magnetic recording medium 1 of a main magnetic pole 2 composed of an Fe-group magnetic alloy thin film having high magnetic permeability at the upstream side and in the travelling direction of the medium 1. The pole 2 is set opposite to the recording surface of the medium 1. In such way, a magnetized deterioration layer 6 such as a nitridation layer, an oxidation layer, etc. having the depth of several thousands of Angstrom is obtained. As a result, the magnetic field is weakened at the edge of the upstream side, and accordingly the vertically magnetized recording is mainly carried out only at the downstream side edge. Thus the conventional inconvenience caused by the double recording can be avoided. |
