PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of using polishing agent containing grains therein in a double surface polishing apparatus and to enable use of a desired kind of grains in a single unit of the apparatus by rotating upper and lower stools relative to each other which have removably mounted on opposing surfaces thereof polishing paper which has fixed grains thereon. CONSTITUTION:A lower stool 24 is fitted on a shaft 24 and is placed on a flange 29. An upper stool 34 has secured thereto by means of bolts 36 claws 35 which engage in a groove 31 formed in the shaft 24, and a grip 38 is threadably engaged with a threaded portion 37 on a central inner surface of the upper stool 34. Polishing paper 40 in the form of a ring has adhesives 40 applied to one face thereof and has grains 42 fixed to the other surface thereof. Such a polishing paper ring 40 is secured to a lower face of the upper stool 34 and to an upper face of the lower stool 32. A carrier 13 in the form of a ring has a plurality of through holes 44 formed therein and works (a) are inserted in the holes 44 of the carrier 43 in a position in which they are contacted at top and bottom faces thereof with the opposing polishing paper rings 40. The shaft 24 is rotated by a drive source such as a motor to rotate the works (a) and the polishing paper rings 40 relative to each other to polish the works (a). |
