The invention relates to a new process for etherifying at least one phenolic functional group of mono- or of polyphenols. It consists essentially of the reaction of a phenolic compound with an etherifying agent chosen from the group consisting of saturated aliphatic alcohols containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms or unsaturated ones containing 3 to 6 carbon atoms, the said process being characterised in that it is carried out in the presence of a carboxylic acid salt. The arylaliphatic ethers obtained may be either employed directly, for example in the pharmaceutical industry, or as intermediates for the synthesis of more complex compounds. |
