In an eloctrochromic device of the kind comprising a layer of persistent electrochromic material (for example WO3) and an electrolyte layer sandwiched between a pair of electrodes, the electrolyte layer is a polymeric electrolyte deposited on the electrochromic layer by evaporation of a solution thereof. The electrolyte may be polystyrene or polyethylene sulphonic acid, perfluorosulphonic acid, or other ion exchange resins containing specified strong or weak acid or base groups. The disclosed related prior art also refers to devices in which conduction occurs via gelled electrolytes or thin plastics layers.
|
