PURPOSE:To determine the concns. of O2 and combustible gas component of exhaust gas from the difference in electromotive force, by using the first zirconia solid electrolyte sensor covered with a catalyst film oxidizing a combustible gas component and the second zirconia electrode formed of an electrode film low in catalytic activity to form temp. difference between both of them. CONSTITUTION:In the first zirconia electrode 3a wherein reference gas RG is given to one electrode and exhaust gas MG is given to the other electrode, when the electrode to which the exhaust gas is given is covered with a Pt-film 7a, the combustible gas in the exhaust gas is catalytically reacted with O2 and the electromotive force related to O2 partial pressure after reaction is obtained between the inner and outer electrodes 6a, 8a. The second electrode 3b respectively in contact with the gases MG, RG in the same manner is formed of an electrode film low in catalytic activity like Si2Mo and heated to temp. lower than that of the electrode 3a. Therefore, the O2 and combustible gas component in the exhaust gas together reach the electrode parts and the sum of the electromotive force related to the O2 partial pressure in the exhaust gas and the electromotive force, which is generated by the direct reaction of the combustible gas component with the O2<-> ion in a zirconia solid electrolyte, is outputted. From this output, the concns. of the O2 and combustible gas component in the exhaust gas are determined. |
