A combination balance, such as is typically used for combining a plurality of articles to form a pack or the like, contains a plurality of weighing devices for the simultaneous weighing of a plurality of articles, a computing unit (36, 38, 40, 52) for selecting a combination of weighing devices containing articles with a total weight coming within a predetermined range of desired weight values, and devices for unloading the weighing devices of the combination and for collecting the respective articles as well as for feeding new articles to these weighing devices in order to initiate a new work cycle. In the current invention, there is an arrangement (80) which allows the initiation of the next work cycle before the termination of the preceding work cycle and the determination of a new combination of the weighing devices not selected in the preceding cycle, in order to save time. <IMAGE>
