Final support is introduced after application of sprayed concrete in a cleared space, and initial consolidation of this by rock, in provision of a gallery support system in mining and tunnelling. Following, or before application of the first layer (31) of sprayed concrete, lattice structures (35,37) are force- locked against the rock or concrete, along the gallery. The ultimate load bearing structure is produced by introduction of a partially or completely sprayed layer (48) of steel fibre concrete onto the gaps between these, it is also sprayed into them. A drainable or injectable layer (33) may be applied in advance of the first sprayed concrete layer. This provides a high degree of rigidity and waterproofing.
