PURPOSE:To enable a correction of disturbance of axial lengths of a monolithic carrier in catalyst convertor in which the monolithic carrier is resiliently supported in a case, by a method wherein a spacer is arranged at an end part of the monolithic carrier in a flow direction of exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:The monolithic carrier having net 2 wound around an outer circumferential surface thereof is stored in the convertor case 3, and its lower end is supported by a downstream seat surface 7 of the case 3 through an annular resilient member 10. In turn, the upper end of the monolithic carrier 1 is supported at the flange 5 of the exhaust manihold 11 through an annular resilient member 10, and an annular thin plate member 16 having inwardly bent end part, and a spacer 19. In this arrangement, a thickness of the spacer 19 is adjusted in response to an axial length of the monolithic carrier 1 so as to keep always a hight measured from the downstream seat surface 7 to the upper surface of the spacer 19 constant. And its thickness is selected so as to cause it higher than the upper surface of the flange 3c under a non-restricted condition in such a manner as a desired holding force is applied when the exhaust manihold 11 is to be assembled. |
