PURPOSE:To modify polypropylene to a polymer, suitable for an insulating material, and having improved rigidity, heat resistance and drawing property, by decomposing the polypropylene of specific structure in a specified range of decomposition degree. CONSTITUTION:Polypropylene is dissolved in boiling xylene, allowed to stand and filtered to separate a part insoluble in the xylene. The solution is then extracted with boiling n-heptane in a Soxhlet extractor to give the residue insoluble in boiling n-heptane. The resultant insoluble isotactic pentad fraction of the insoluble part is then determined by the 13C-NMR, and polypropylene with the isotactic pentad fraction >=0.955, preferably >=0.965, is decomposed with a radical generating agent in an inert gas at a decomposition degree in the range of 1.2-7, preferably 1.5-3.5, to modify the polypropylene. |
