1,273,180. Halosulphonyl aromatic isocyanates. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 11 Sept., 1969 [12 Sept., 1968], No. 44824/69. Heading C2C. Aromatic isocyanates bearing sulphohalide groups are obtained by reacting an aromatic aminosulphonic acid with phosgene in the presence of an inert organic solvent at elevated temperature and in the presence of an acyclic or cyclic carboxylic amide bearing two substituents on the nitrogen atom. Suitably the end products have the formula in which X is a chlorine or bromine atom, R is an aryl radical substituted by alkyl C 1-4 , chloro, bromo, nitro or alkoxy group, preferably R is a phenyl, diphenyl, naphthyl or anthraquinonyl radical, m and n each represent 1 or 2. Suitable amides are dimethyl formamide, N,N-dimethyl acetamide and N- alkyl lactams. The reaction may be carried out at a temperature of from 150-220‹ C. A hydrogen halide may also be added to the reaction mixture. |
