Basic oxygen furnace lining repair - using vertical relining lance between charging and oxygen blowing stages

After charging and turning to the vertical position but before lowering the oxygen lance into the furnace, a basic oxygen furnace is relined at its worn lining zones using a vertically movable relining lance which is lowered into the furnace and pref. rotated while it applies refractory material to the worn zones. After removing the relining lance, the oxygen lance is lowered into the furnace and normal refining is carried out. Lining repairs can be carried out during each refining cycle and add only 2-3 mins. to the cycle duration (cf. 3-5 days for complete relining or 15-40 mins. for prior art linings repairs.
