[Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula in which R is hydrogen, a halogenated C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, a C 3 -C 6 cycloalkyl group or a C 2 -C 4 alkenyl group. They may be prepared by reacting an appropriately meta-substituted amido phenol with methyl isocyanate in the liquid phase optionally in the presence of an inert organic solvent at a temperature between room temperature and the reflux temperature of the solvent. A tertiary amine, e.g. triethylamine may be used as catalyst. Examples are given of the preparation of compounds of the above formula in which R is 2-chloroethyl, trichloromethyl, 1,1 -dichloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl, bromomethyl, 1,2-dibromoethyl, chlorodifluoromethyl, trifluoromethyl, pentafluoromethyl, hydrogen, vinyl, 2-methylvinyl, cyclopropyl, isopropenyl, allyl, cyclobutyl and cyclohexyl. |
