1,211,604. Vitreous tile. CORNING GLASS WORKS. 22 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 55536/68. Heading C1M. [Also in Division E1] A tile T comprises a body formed of non- porous vitreous material, the body having a relatively planar face bounded by integral, generally perpendicular, peripheral sidewall portions 36 and a continuous, integral peripheral flange 32 extending inwardly of the sidewall portions and generally parallel to the planar face providing a recessed undercut 34, for lockably attaching the tile to mud or mortar. Such a tile may be formed by placing a sheet G of heat-softened vitreous material (e.g. glass) over the cavity 14 and rim 10 of mould 12, applying a vacuum via ports 16 and 18 to conform the material to the mould shape, squeezing the edges of the sheet with a trimmer 24 having edges 26 so as to gather inwardly the glass between upper mould surface 28 and trim edge 30 to form an inward facing flange, edge 26 contacting edge 30 so as to sever the glass. The amount of glass in the flange may be varied by altering the distance between 28 and edge 30. |
