PURPOSE:To ensure the easy and assured inversion of a tape when an address is detected, by recording the control signals of different frequencies adjacently to an address signal. CONSTITUTION:Address signals 151- are recorded on an address track 12 of a magnetic tape 11, and at the same time control signals 161- plus 171- of different frequencies are recorded at the upstream and downstream sides of the track and adjacently to those address signals. Accordingly the forward or backward turn of a tape is detected in accordance with the signals 161- or 171 immediately before the signals 151- are read. Then a backward shift process is given to the signals 151- which are read and stored during the backward turn. These signals are compared with the addresses which are set and stored. Thus an address can be detected in an easy and assured way even when the tape is inverted. |
